Article Submission Guidelines
Engage is a publication tailored for Volunteer Engagement leaders globally, addressing various aspects of volunteering and Volunteer Management.
Within its diverse sections and features, Engage reflects both the wide interests and special concerns of its audience through quarterly articles on professional ethics; technological advances and available tools for the field; research that reflects where the profession has been, where it is today and where it’s going; opinion columns from professional leaders and voices from those just getting started; and a wide-range of features that address the global interests and connections within Volunteer Engagement and Management.
Engage embraces diverse terms like civic engagement, activism and pro bono work, acknowledging the broad spectrum of activities undertaken without monetary compensation. The journal aims to foster a deep understanding of volunteerism and its interconnectedness, inviting contributions that resonate beyond individual cultures.
Targeting a sophisticated, international audience across non-profit, government and for-profit sectors, Engage seeks advanced-level material that appeals to all sectors of Volunteer Engagement and Volunteer Management. It bridges the gap between agency-based and all-volunteer organizations, encouraging submissions that facilitate dialogue between these realms.
All journal articles are submitted in electronic format. Preferably, feature articles are around 2,500 words long, while articles for other sections of the journal are ideally between 1,000 and 1,750 words long.
Multimedia elements like images, videos and online links are encouraged; the journal prioritizes interactivity, featuring response buttons to stimulate reader engagement. Authors are urged to participate in online discussions post-publication and leverage social media to extend dialogue.
Upon submission, authors provide an abstract and a brief biography and photograph.
The Engage Editorial Board retains final decision-making authority on edits, striving for collaborative author-editor relationships.
